RPB Special Scholar Awards, with grant amounts ranging between $25,000 to $75,000, are granted each Spring to encourage promising ophthalmic researchers. Candidates must have a primary appointment as an Assistant Professor in ophthalmology and have held that position for no more than seven (7) years from the time of the application deadline.  Proposals should reflect independent research. Only one candidate per school may be nominated per spring review cycle. Awardees will be required to expend the award within two (2) years.

Only current RPB-grantee departments of ophthalmology may nominate candidates for the Special Scholar Award

The spring cycle application deadline for the Special Scholar Award is January 10, with nomination forms due no later than December 15.  Applications received without a prior nomination form will not be accepted. This award is not available during the fall cycle. (If the nomination or application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, consider the following business day the deadline.)  The nomination and application forms for this award are not available online.  Contact Pattie Moran to obtain the Special Scholar Award nomination and application forms.
