Dry eye is a chronic medical condition that develops when the eye's tear film does not lubricate and protect the eye's outer surface.
With support from Research to Prevent Blindness, medical student Ryan Shean seeks to enhance glaucoma diagnosis through the novel use of artificial intelligence at the Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California. His mentor is Benjamin Xu, MD, PhD, associate professor of ophthalmology and clinical scholar at the Keck School of Medicine and chief of the Glaucoma Service at the USC Roski Eye Institute. Dr. Xu previously received an RPB Career Advancement Award to support his cutting-edge glaucoma research.
Learn about what inspired Shean to go into medicine and how his glaucoma research is moving the field forward here.
